Mompha Arrested

EFCC claimed that Mompha is arrested for being highly involved in unlawful activities and retention of alleged activities of crime. Mompha obtained laundering funds through illegal activities. The news of his arrest broke out on Monday and as per the reports, he is still under EFCC’s custody and currently facing trial for his illicit company known as Ismalob Global Investment Ltd.

Why was Mompha Arrested?

A spokesperson for EFCC named Wilson Uwujaren affirmed that The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission re-captured Mompha for being involved in money laundering. However, this is not the first time when he has been arrested as prior to this he was arrested at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport while boarding Dubai by an Emirates Airline flight by Nigeria Immigration Service back in 2019 on Oct 18. Currently, Mompha is facing serious money laundering charges. EFCC put allegations on him for using his Ismalob Global Investment Ltd. company to receive an illicit amount of money from across the globe in order to get commissions of the amount.

EFCC released a statement following the arrest of Mompha on Monday, “the account of one of his firms a Bureau de Change firm, Ismalob Global Investment Ltd. firm was allegedly used in illegal money laundering activities.” According to the report, an intensive investigation has been initiated to look into the matter. Moreover, investigators also revealed that they recovered a money transfer slip worth $92,412,75 from his iPhone 8. Mompha is yet to be presented in court.
