A 40-year-old man is being interrogated following the murder of a young woman. The woman who is identified as Ashling Murphy witnessed a horrific attack on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, while she was jogging along a canal located in Tullamore in County Offaly. Ever since the murder case was discovered, the officers are leaving no stone unturned to find out the culprit. Now, in the murder case, a man has been detained and has been put in custody while the police officers are questioning him regarding the suspicious death of the lady.
The woman who has been identified by 24-year-old Ashling Murphy is a school teacher. She teaches at Durrow National School. On Jan 12, she was jogging along the Grand Canal Way when someone attacked her. Not much information about the sudden attack is revealed yet. As per reports, Ashling died after that attack and now the area’s officers have started their investigation in the murder case where they are trying to collect all the evidence and details from the crime scene. It is coming forward that a team of 50 Irish police officers has been formed to investigate the case.
Who Was Ashling Murphy?
According to the Irish police, Ashling was a primary school teacher and was quite popular in the school. Apart from teaching at Durrow National School, Murphy was also a talented and skilled musician. The preliminary investigation indicates that the 24-year-old woman died of the injuries she sustained from the assault. As she was severely injured, the woman was taken to the hospital where she was given the best possible treatment. However, Ashling Murphy could not be saved and she passed away at the hospital only. The Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO) has called the attack an “appalling tragedy”.
INTO further stated that the horrendous tragedy to befall a young woman who had just begun her teaching career has added to the profound sense of loss. Now, in the case, Irish officers have detained a 40-year-old man at Tullamore Garda Station. It is reported that the man belongs to Romania and has been residing in Tullamore for several years. Although the man is on the suspect list and is being questioned, Superintendent Eamonn Curley has appealed to the general public who happened to be at the Grand Way on Wednesday between 3 to 5 PM to come forward and share anything they know. Besides, the postmortem reports of Ashling Murphy are awaited.
