The organization’s executive director of the organization stated that Kotagal is an incredibly gifted litigator who has been a fierce advocate for the civic rights and employment equity. As one of the first South Asian women to join the plaintiff’s bar, Kalpana has broken down barriers.

It is coming forward that Biden nominated two Indian-Americans as US envoys last month, one of whom is political activist Shefali Razdan Duggal, who has been assigned to the Netherlands. Reports confirm that Vinay Singh has been nominated to be the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Chief Financial Officer. On another side, Kalpana is a partner in the American law firm Cohen Milstein and is the daughter of Indian immigrants. She works in the Civil Rights and Employment practice group at the firm and represents disenfranchised persons in employment and legal matters such as Title VII and the Equal Pay Act.

Apart from this, Kotagal serves as co-chair of the firm’s Hiring and Diversity Committee as well. Kalpana also happens to be an expert in diversity, equity, and inclusion. Cohen Milstein’s website states that Kalpana attended Stanford University and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in 1999. Later, in 2005, at the University of Pennsylvania, Kalpana got her Doctor of Law degree. She had a Wasserstein Public Interest Fellowship at the Harvard Law School from 2018 to 2019, according to the clerkships and fellowships section.

Kalpana Kotagal was also a Law Clerk for the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit from 2005 to 2006, working under Hon. Better Binns Fletcher. She is the co-author of the book under the title “Inclusion Rider”, which was recommended by Oscar winner Frances McDormand in her Best Actress acceptance speech in 2018.
