The Popular girl group of South Korea Blackpink’s member Jisoo just made her acting debut. Jisoo had become the talk of the town ever since she announced her first K-drama. Well, now, the young member of the band has debuted with the most-awaited drama titled “Snowdrop”. Undoubtedly, Blinks, the fandom name of the band, has been hyping the new release and are appreciating Jisoo for her portrayal of the character. However, the newly-released Korean drama has also sparked controversy. Check why the drama has become the subject of discussion among netizens.
Directed by Jo Hyun-tak, the K-drama explores the forbidden love between the main leads. Even though the drama debuted big, it has landed in some controversies. As per reports, it has been coming forward that the drama’s one of the three largest sponsorships have cancelled its sponsorship after the broadcast of three episodes. The company representative released a statement where they mentioned why they invested in the project in the first place.
The representative stated that they decided to invest in the drama as it had Blackpink’s member Jisoo and actor Jung Hae and that they were unaware of the plot of the drama. The representative further claimed that they had no idea about the details of the plot and thought that investing in it would be good for advertisement. It was stated that the makers edited the problematic scenes from the show so that it can pass the broadcasting standards and that they did not think of investigating any further as they trusted them.
But now, the representatives have decided to cancel the sponsorship after learning about the plot. Yes, their name will be taken out from the third episode. Earlier, the drama had sparked controversy for distorting historical facts. Netizens are also bashing the drama and are demanding for it to go off-air. Almost 200,000 people have already signed the petition and have been stating that featuring the male lead as a spy and romanticizing him is quite inappropriate.
While they also seemed to dislike the fact that Jisso’s character saved the spy while a historical song was played in the background. Now, it would be interesting to see if the show will be shut down or will continue to run. Talking about Snowdrop, it was released on 18 December 2021.
