President Uhuru Kenyatta was conspicuously missing during the wedding of June Ruto, the daughter to Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday, May 27.
He, however, sent his deputy with a message to the couple during the National Prayer Breakfast that took place earlier on Thursday.
In a short video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the president congratulated his deputy and assured that he would visit the newly weds after his trip to Kisumu where he will celebrate the Madaraka day celebrations.
June Ruto walks down the aisle accompanied by her parents DP William Ruto and Rachel Ruto on Thursday, May 27.
“Pongezi tena (Congratulations), you will tell them. Nitawaona maybe tukitoka huko Kisumu (I will see them after my trip to Kisumu),” he said.
A section of Kenyans had wondered why the president failed to show up for June’s wedding.
“Imagine president Uhuru missing June Ruto’s wedding because of politics. Congratulations June, you made a stunning bride. Joy and Happiness and will have an address in your home,” politician Karen Nyamu said.
At the time of the wedding, the president attended a function at the National Defense College in Karen where he presided over the award of a University Charter.
June tied the knot to her Nigerian fiancé Dr. Alexander Ezenagu in an elegant ceremony at Ruto’s private residence along Koitobos Road in Karen.
Among the leaders who attended include; ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Elgeyo Marakwet Kipchumba Murkomen, Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, Soy MP Caleb Kositany, and Nandi governor Stephen Sang.
Mudavadi encouraged leaders to put their differences aside and attend such important occasions when called upon to attend.
“Indeed, family ties are key in building societal values. As leaders we should sometimes rise above the din of politics and instead nurture that which unites us.
“Having time for our families is key in upholding family values in our society. I wish the newly-wed couple a happy and prosperous life together,” Mudavadi stated.
