The incident was confirmed by the Western Regional Assistant County Commissioner Cornelius Nyaribai.

His death comes just two days after he escaped from Jogoo Road Police Station in Nairobi on Wednesday under unclear circumstances. He escaped hours before he was presented before the court.

Wanjala was arrested in July this year after he confessed to killing 12 children in a span of four years within Nairobi, Machakos and Bungoma counties.

He told the police that he posed as a football coach to lure his victims to their death trap. In his confession, he told the police that he killed the minors and dumped their bodies in different places. So far only five bodies of his victims have been recovered.

Wanjala was arrested after he demanded ransom from one of his victim’s parents.

Following his escape from police custody, three police officers were arrested including the station’s deputy OCS Philip Mbithi, Boniface Mutuma and Precious Mwende. The officers are likely to be charged for helping Wanjala escape from lawful custody and negligence of duties.
