Lawyers hired by civil society groups to defend the High Court’s anti-Building Bridges Initiative judgement at the Court of Appeal have insisted that President Uhuru Kenyatta as a State officer is limited by the law to start a process to make changes to the constitution.
The advocates said the Head of State should have handed over power to his deputy William Ruto for him to pursue BBI as a private citizen.
Prof Kithure Kindiki argued that cannot delink himself from BBI and yet he selected a committee to make recommendations to the law.
Uphold High Court Ruling on BBI, Critics Tell Court
Critics of the Bridges Initiative (BBI) yesterday asked the Court of Appeal to upheld that High Court decision that declared the clamour to change the law unconstitutional.
The opponents maintained that President Uhuru is barred by the constitution from initiating a process the amend the country’s supreme document.
“If he want to engage in affairs of lesser mortals, he should step down. The President is supreme mortal,” LSK president Nelson Havi said.
Havi added that if the changes in the BBI referendum Bill are effected, the basic structure of the constitution will also be altered.

Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata said Tangatanga lawmakers have joined the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) after the ruling party failed to listen to them.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i on Thursday hosted ODM leader Raila Odinga for lunch, this coming weeks after the former Prime Minister accused the Super CS of misusing his powers, following the chaos witnessed in the Bonchari by-election.
Matiang’i thanked Raila for accepting his invite, they discussed matters of national interets.

Abductions in Nyeri Cause Scare
Days after Nyeri businesman Gerald Guandara was kidnapped in broad daylight, three more people were yesterday seized by unknown people.
Witnesses said the abduction of two of the three men was executed in Kanyagia area and the kidnappers used the same tricks they employed during Guandara’s grabbing.
