Jubilee Secretary-General Raphael Tuju has revealed that coalition talks between the ruling party and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) are at an advanced stage.

A 14-member team has been selected to midwife an alliance between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

An insider within the negotiation team told the Saturday Nation that strategies have been proposed on how the President will regain his Mt Kenya backyard, which is said to be tilting towards Deputy President William Ruto.

If the plan fails, the next option would be creating divisions in the region to split presidential votes.

Kirubi Was Behind Many Political Deals

ODM leader Raila Odinga yesterday revealed that late businessman Chris Kirubi played a significant role in the formation of the grand coalition government between him and retired President Mwai Kibaki.

Following the disputed 2007 presidential election, the former Prime Minister said Kirubi approached him, convincing him to form a government with Kibaki.

For his part, Equity Bank Managing Director Polycarp Igathe disclosed that the business mogul crafted the failed Mike Sonko-Igathe pair for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat.

Igathe further stated that Kirubi influenced President Uhuru Kenyatta to form the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS).

Workers to Down Tools if Govt Fails to Review Salaries Directive

The Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) has threatened that its members working with the government will strike if the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) does not reverse its decision to freeze salary review.

Just two days ago, the SRC said it would not increase salaries for the civil servants in the two years due to the effects of Covid-19 on the economy.

“The government cannot make a blanket decision for all workers because not all sectors are making losses,” Cotu deputy Secretary-General Earnest Nadome said.

EABL Increases Alcohol Prices

The high cost of fuel and more taxation from the government have been cited by East African Breweries Limited (EABL) as the reasons why it has revised alcohol prices.

EABL Corporate Relations Director Eric Kiniti announced that consumers of the brewer’s products will part with between Ksh5 and Ksh500 more for them to continue enjoying their favourite drinks.

EU Rejecting Travellers From Kenya

A section Kenyans who intending to travel to countries that fall under the European Union (EU) have been forced to cancel their trips over Covid-19.

According to some of them, their visa applications have been rejected despite indicating that they have been vaccinated against that virus and would produce a Covid-19 negative PCR test.

The travellers said they have been informed that the EU doesn’t recognise the Indian-manufactured Astazeneca Covid-19 vaccine.

Nasir Criticises Shahbal

The return of Mombasa businessman Suleiman Shahbal to ODM has started to cause jitters within the Raila Odinga-led outfit.

Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nasir described Shahbal as a “serial defector”, accusing him of being unprincipled.

The defection of the tycoon, who is keen to succeed Governor Ali Hassan Joho. complicated matters for Nasir, who is also eyeing the same seat.

He said he was ready to face Shahbal in the ODM primaries. The Mvita lawmaker added: “I have no problem with him at all. I just pray he doesn’t defect again.”

Matatu Driver Accused of Causing Death of Deputy IG’s Daughter Detailed

The matatu driver, who allegedly caused the death of the daughter of Deputy Inspector-General of Police Edward Mbugua, will spend four more days in custody as police conclude investigations.

On Thursday, 16th June, the 25-year-old Nelly Waithera was sandwiched between two vehicles as crossed the the junction between Maragua Lane and Tom Mboya in Nairobi.

She was seriously wounded and was rushed to the Kenyatta National Hospital where she passed away.

Shebesh Says Kidero Paid Her Ksh30M For Slap

Former Nairobi Woman Representative Rachel Shebesh has claimed that she was paid Ksh30 million to drop a case in which ex-city Governor Evans Kidero was accused of slapping her.

Speaking to Ghetto Radio, Shebesh said she would not have allowed Kidero to get away with the matter, as that would set a bad precedent and promote violence against women.

When she abandoned the suit in 2014, the politician told journalists that she had forgiven the ex-county boss unconditionally.

Officer on The Run After Assaulting Wife

Police in Homa Bay have launched a manhunt for one of their own who reportedly battered his wife, causing injuries in her genitals.

The officer is said to have nailed his 32-year-old wife’s private parts after he suspected her of being in a relationship with another man.
