No Money to Pay MPs’ Allowances

A section of MPs have expressed their frustrations after the Treasury delayed to release their allowances as well as the kitty meant for the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).

Bulgut MP Nelson Koech revealed to the Nation that some lawmakers were “struggling”, as they have not received their mileage and sitting allowances in the last two months.

However, clerk of the National Assembly Michael Sialai dispelled the claims, saying “all allowances are processed and paid when due”.

Joho Call Out Nasa Principals

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has criticised some co-principals of the opposition’s National Super Alliance (Nasa) for being uneasy after Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) initiated talks with the Jubilee Party.

Joho, who is also the ODM deputy party leader, said the Orange outfit is aware that some of their partners in Nasa are secretly engaging Deputy President William Ruto.

He added his boss, Raila Odinga, will not back any of the Nasa chiefs, as the agreement was that he should serve at least one presidential term and then endorse Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who has lately been accusing the former Prime Minister of insincerity.

More Doses of Covid-19 Vaccine Arrive

Some 358,000 doses of the Astrazeneca Covid-19 vaccine from Denmark landed in the country last evening.

The consignment was donated to Kenya by the Danish government.

The Ministry of Health revealed that more doses to help complete the second round of vaccination will be shipped before the end of the week.

No Justice For Kenei?

Former AP officer Kipyegon Kenei, who worked as a guard at Deputy President William Ruto’s Harambee Annex office, could join a long list of individuals who have been killed in cold blood and their murders remain unresolved.

Director Public Prosecution (DPP) Noordin Haji has disclosed that one year later he is yet to receive the investigation file on Kenei’s death.

The sergeant was found dead at his Imara Daima home in Nairobi last year, just days after former Sports CS Rashid Echesa allegedly hosted an illegal meeting at the DP’s office.

How Echesa Accessed DP Ruto Office With 2 White Men

A Nairobi court has heard that former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa told guards at Deputy President William Ruto’s Harambee Annex office that he had an appointment the with DP together with two foreigners, whom days later complained that the ex-CS had defrauded them after failing to honour a promise of helping them get a deal to supply arms in the military.

Witnesses told Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot that on 13th February 2020, Echesa was allowed access into the premises with his guests after convincing security officers that he had a scheduled meeting with the second in command.

Interestingly, the DP was out of town, attending a burial in Murang’a County same day.

Where is Mbijiwe?

Detectives investigating the disappearance of former Kenya Air Force Commander Mwenda Mbijiwe are now analysing his dealings before he vanished.

The investigators also want to establish why such a high-profile individual had hired an ordinary car for three weeks and disappeared on the day he was supposed to return it. Police officer Edward Mwangi, who gave Mbijiwe his Toyota Fielder car, said the security expert hired the vehicle for business purposes.

The family said it is running out of patience and pleaded with sleuths to speed up investigations.

New KTDA Bosses Assume Office as Outgoing Board Fights Back

Hours after the new leadership at the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) assumed office, the outgoing board insisted that it was still at the helm.

The new team of 12 directors led by chairman Daniel Muni called on investigative agencies to probe the suspended managers and conduct a thorough forensic audit of the financial systems.

However, the former board warned farmers against doing business with the new bosses, claiming that they have no legitimacy.

Former Intelligence Boss Dies

Former deputy director of intelligence Stephen Mwangi Muriithi died yesterday after a long illness.

Muriithi was a former ally and business partner of late President Daniel Arap Moi until 1982 when they they fell out following the attempted coup.

Years later, he sued Moi for allegedly using his presidential power to bring down his businesses. In 2011, the High Court ordered the ex-Head of State to pay Ksh2 billion as compensation, but the ruling was overturned by the Court of Appeal after Moi appealed.

The case is still ongoing at the Supreme Court.

University Placement

At least 32,000 students who attained grade C plus and above in the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCPE) exam and are eligible to join universities have been asked to reapply for degree programmes after the placement board rejected their earlier wishes.

However, Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) Chief Executive Officer Mercy Wahome said 92,275 candidates have been selected to study their preferred degree courses under government sponsorship.

Slightly over 10,000 students who qualified to join varsities did not apply for placement.

Her dream campaign team includes Kilifi North MP Owen Baya, Kilifi County Minister for Roads and Transport Charo Kazungu, who is eyeing the Ganze parliamentary seat and woman representative aspirant Juliet Baya.

“The people I have mentioned are those with whom we have sat down together, discussed and agreed that we are all set for the 2022 General Election,” she said.
