‘Tehran’ Co-Producer Paper Entertainment Funded by U.K.’s Channel 4

U.K. broadcaster Channel 4’s Indie Growth Fund has taken a minority stake in London-based Paper Entertainment, co-producer of hit Apple TV Plus series “Tehran.”

Paper Entertainment was set up by Julien Leroux to develop, finance and produce TV content in partnership with talent and producers around the world. The outfit is co-producing the second season of “Tehran,” which is currently in pre-production.

Leroux served as an executive producer on season 1, and struck the co-production deal with Apple, which was announced last year.

Caroline Murphy, head of Channel 4’s Indie Growth Fund, said: “Julien has an infectious passion and drive and is committed to creating high end, quality content. We’re really excited about the future of Paper Entertainment and we believe that Channel 4’s investment will help propel Paper Entertainment to become a real success story.”

Leroux, founder and CEO, Paper Entertainment, said: “It is an honor to partner with Channel 4 and the amazing team at the Indie Growth Fund. Paper Entertainment aims to create global content which is both entertaining and meaningful and we can’t think of a better partner to enable us to achieve this.”

Leroux was previously senior VP of global scripted co-productions at Cineflix Media, where, along with “Tehran,” he developed projects with producers including Clerkenwell Films, Broadway Video, Hera Pictures and Bryncoed Productions.

The executive also sourced content for Cineflix Rights, including Icelandic political series “The Minister,” Russian thriller “An Ordinary Woman,” Berlinale Series 2020 official selection “Happily Married,” and Canadian procedural series “Coroner.”

Paper Entertainment has several other projects in development, which will be announced shortly.
