A new poll has shown that 15% of Americans believe the theory, created by QAnon, that the government, the media and the financial world in the United States (US) “are controlled by a group of Satan-worshiping pedophiles who run a global child sex trafficking operation”.
According to the survey, conducted by the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) and released by IFLScience!, this is one of the theories of the QAnon conspiracy movement, inspired by an anonymous American who signs “Q”, who, among other beliefs, defended that Donald Trump would win the elections November 2020.
In this survey, rather than asking people directly if they believe the QAnon, the PRRI asked more than 5,149 adults in the US whether they agree with the basic beliefs associated with the group. Although these are losing followers, the survey revealed 15% of respondents agreed with the theory about “Satan worshipers”.
The belief is more prevalent among those who access news through the media. far right – like the One America News Network it’s the Newsmax -, people who do not watch the news on television and who trust the Fox News. The poll also showed that Republicans are far more likely to believe the theory than Democrats.
The survey also showed that 20% of respondents believed in another theory, also created by the QAnon, which indicates that, “soon there will be a storm that will remove the elites from power and restore the rightful leaders”, maintaining the standards for guidance politics and news consumption.
Another finding of the survey is that 15% of respondents agree that “true American patriots may have to resort to violence to save the country.” Of the total number of participants, 9% argue that “the covid-19 vaccine contains a surveillance ‘microchip’, sign of the beast in biblical prophecy”.
