Pupils arrested for returning from lunch break while “high on Chang’aa, bhang”

Two pupils at Chepkoilel Primary School in Saboti sub-county, Transzoia County were arrested for reporting to school when drunk.

The pupils, composed of standard six and seven pupils reportedly went for lunch break, but upon resumption to school, their teachers noticed that they were behaving disorderly.

The act prompted the teacher to alert the are chief who called the nearby police officers who arressted the two while other are reportedly to escape during the crackdown.

The two pupils directed the police to a chang’aa den about 600 metres from the school. The woman who sold the illicit brew to the minors was also arrested with the pupils admitting to consume Chang’aa and Smoking bhang at the Woman’s home.

400 rolls of bhang and several litres of Chang’aa were retrieved in the crackdown.

The incident prompted police officers in the region to launch a countrywide crackdown on illicit brew traders.

“This is an unfortunate incident. We are not going to tolerate people selling illegal substance and alcohol to pupils and high school students,” Transzoia County Commissioner Sammy Ojwang said as he called for a crackdown on all illicit liquor dens.
