President Buhari Receives Hostile Reception From Maiduguri Residents

Throughout his sympathy visit to the town on Wednesday President Muhammdu Buhari was booed by Maiduguri people. Our correspondents confirmed that residents of the metropolis, who came out early, lined up on both sides of the road along the airport route, expressed their disapproval by booting Buhari’s convoy, shouting in Hausa,’ Ba ma so’ means roughly:’ we don’t like it.’
Buhari landed in Maiduguri, the capital of the Borno State, from Addis Abeba, Ethiopia, to pay a visit of sympathy to the government and the people of the State after the recent horrific incident in which Boko Haram terrorists killed many travelers.

President Buhari left Abuja last Friday for the Thirty-third (33rd) Ordinary Session of African Union (AU) Heads of State and Government in Addis Abeba.

In a statement issued by his media assistant, Garba Shehu, commiserated with the family of victims of the Maiduguri attacks, President Buhari promised them that his government will consistently frustrate and put to an end Boko Haram’s devilish operations. The president has said his government is always willing to frustrate its goal of keeping Nigeria to ransom.

This administration’s dedication to protecting the lives of Nigerians will not be weakened by the cowardly and indiscriminate brutality of Boko Haram terrorists against innocent people,’ he said, while referring to recent attacks in Maiduguri.

President Buhari, who also condoled with the state government, cautioned that “the terrorists are clearly on a back foot and are numbered their days.” “The relics of Boko Haram will ultimately be crushed as our armed forces continue to receive more hardware and intelligence to counter our current security challenges.

Notwithstanding the unique challenges of asymmetric warfare, our armies are always ready to kill these enemies of humanity,’ said President Buhari. Boko Haram insurgents killed 30 passengers on Sunday night from dozens of travelers forced to spend the night in Auno, 25 kilometers from Maiduguri.

Some of the victims were reportedly burnt beyond recognition by a fire from a petrol tanker set on fire by the attackers, including a mother and a child. Witnesses said the terrorists also abducted 22 men, accused of being loyal to Abubakar Shekau, and destroyed 18 vehicles and properties worth millions of naira. The insurgents also destroyed shops and residential buildings, witnesses said, in addition to targeting the travellers. It is reported that the onslaught on Auno took place around 9.50 pm when on Sunday hundreds of travelers who were stopped by soldiers managing the road were asleep around 4.45 pm.
