At the end of the 11th day of the Premier League, Liverpool fell for the first time this season against West Ham (2-3). The Reds of a feverish Alisson Becker miss the opportunity to take control of the English championship against valiant Hammers. Kurt Zouma’s teammates, scorer, never cease to surprise.
The Reds are therefore not untouchable. The only team still unbeaten in the Premier League before the kick off of Matchday 11, Liverpool had the opportunity to seize the leading throne during their perilous trip to the lawn of sensation West Ham this Sunday. The London Stadium audience has been served, this tempting part on paper and full of promise having anything but disappointing between two playful and attractive teams. This meeting even started on the hats of wheels. On a returning corner kicked by Pablo Fornals, Alisson, slightly hampered by Michail Antonio on the ground and by Angelo Ogbonna in the air, was completely holed and sent the ball into his own net with his fists (1-0, 4th). Stunned, the Reds tried to react and took the game on their own, without however managing to carry the danger on the goal of Łukasz Fabiański, once again preferred to Alphonse Areola in the league.
The Liverpuldiens sinned too much in the last gesture to hope for anything, like the unframed attempts of Jota, the head (32nd) or Trent Alexander-Arnold (35th). The London defense, led by a solid Kurt Zouma, held up well against the timid enemy assaults. Liverpool therefore relied on a set piece. Almost at a standstill and after a relay with Mohamed Salah, TAA deliciously cleaned the skylight of the Polish goalkeeper on a marvelous free kick to get his team back into the match (1-1, 41st). Virgil van Dijk, author of an extremely controlled first period, intervened as a boss in the feet of Jarrod Bowen, as if to confirm his return to the foreground and to keep this score of parity at half-time.
Zouma participates in the party
Upon returning from the locker room, Jürgen Klopp’s men imposed their desire to hurt those of David Moyes. But there again, they were narrowly missing in the last gesture, like Salah (57th), when Fabiański did not show himself to be imperial, (51st, ahead of Sadio Mané). And the punishment was not long in coming. On one of their rare forays into the opposing last 30 meters, Pablo Fornals deceived Alisson, who could only slow down the ball’s run, after a masterful rush from Bowen (2-1, 67th). Again, Liverpool did not let go, but Jota, with his head, still missed the frame (69th). But Zouma, on a corner from Bowen, took advantage of Alisson’s new hesitation at the far post to make the break (3-1, 74th).
If Fabiański folded well on a strike from Thiago Alcantara (81st), he could not do anything on the superb sequence of Divock Origi in pivot (3-2, 83rd). A reduction in the gap that offered a stifling end to the match for Hammers supporters. In a London Stadium holding his breath, Mané lacked the equalization of a diving header (90th + 1). Despite a last timid attempt by the Belgian striker, West Ham held their prestigious victory amid London’s famous bubbles. The Hammers, who have not known defeat since October 3, have a fourth victory in the Premier League to confirm their status as a serious challenger. Liverpool, who are no longer undefeated, miss the opportunity to join Chelsea at the top of the championship and line up a second game without a win.
