Nairobi Politics ahead of the general elections has started taking shape as ODM Party announces it will field candidates in all positions.
Orange Democratic Movement Party Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna explained that as a party they had the responsibility to ‘feed’ their own.
“Nairobi as we speak is one under President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga. As a political party, ODM will field candidates for all the positions in Nairobi and I believe Jubilee Will have theirs too,” he said.
“Then we shall come to a consensus on who is the best to be on the ballot. ,” Sifuna added.
Nairobi has 17 sub-counties, 85 wards, position of the Senator, Woman representative and Governor.
The SG, however, emphasized that ODM will not be divided when it comes to Nairobi Gubernatorial candidate.
Sifuna was speaking during the official ceremony where Westlands Mp Tim Wanyonyi launched his Gubernatorial Bid for Nairobi.
He was representing Raila who was having a rally at the coast, accompanied by other ODM party members.
In attendance were Nairobi MCAs lead Minority Leader Michael Ogada and Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch
Wanyonyi after declaring his interest in the Nairobi governorship joined former Starehe MP Bishop Margaret Wanjiru and Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja.
Last month, the Mp received a huge advantage where he was endorsed by Ida Odinga, wife to ODM Party leader, Raila Odinga.
Throwing her support behind the Mp, Idah described Wanyonyi as very organized and Intelligent person since they worked together in the Kenya Paraplegic Organisation
Having served Westlands for 15 years both as a councilor and an Mp, Wanyonyi feels it’s time he takes his leadership skills to the big office in town at City hall.
Wanyonyi, who is a brother to Ford Kenya leader and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula, believes he has done all he had wanted to do in Westlands—empowered women and the youth, refurbished and equipped schools, invested in education and worked with the police to improve security.
Wanyonyi was described as a true student of Raila, polite and strict legislator who has clear discipline record at the party.
“ For the past nine years, Nairobi has been treated to theatrics but now We want someone who is sober enough to engage the business community and come up with plans to better the city. Wanyonyi represents sober leadership,” Sifuna added.
Throwing support behind the Westlands legislator, Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch said Nairobi needed a manager who can solve the critical issues affecting the capital.
He pointed out youth unemployment, streamlining of Inspectorate’ kanjo’ sector will be reformed.
“Wanyonyi is our Symbol of hope. He has done a lot for Westlands sub-county for the past 15 years and I know he has the best leadership qualities that we require as Nairobi County,” Oluoch added.
Delivering his Manifesto, Wanyonyi promised to integrate ICT as a core enabler of functions and services by Nairobi County.
Top of his agenda will be to fight corruption and seal all loopholes and enforce a cashless system.
“To catalyze business growth in Nairobi, I will put in place bold mechanisms to fight corruption by enforcing all the by-laws that have been passed to prevent corruption,” Wanyonyi added.
IF elected, the Westlands MP said he will invest in innovative ways to promote, protect and expand the environmental assets of the city.
“Proper planning for water supply, waste disposal and environmental conservation is key for a SMART CITY. I recognize that without protecting the environment, it is not possible to achieve sustainable change,” Wanyonyi added
