Nollywood’s Joke Silva celebrates 40 years in the industry




Veteran Nigerian actress, Joke Silva is celebrating four decades in the Nigerian film industry.

The actress took to her Instagram account to make the announcement, also adding that she was going to release her biography. She wrote,

“Numbers are very important to me, so this year, as I turn 60, I also mark forty years in the industry I love. My biography of that title #40at60 is actually in the works. Psalm 100 (40+60) is on my lips today as I express my gratitude to God! Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God…”

Joke Silva got her big break in film in 1998, starring alongside Colin Firth and Nia Long in the British-Canadian film, The Secret Laughter of Women.

In 2006, Silva won the award for “Best Actress in a Leading Role” at the second Africa Movie Academy Awards. In 2008, She won a Best Supporting Actress award for her “methodical portrayal of a grandmother” in White Waters. Joke Silva is also the recipient of the SOLIDRA Award for Visual Art as well as multiple recognitions for her contribution to arts and culture.

She’s also served as a United Nations goodwill ambassador and in 2014, received recognition as a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic.

Joke Silva is the Director of Studies at the Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts, and also the pioneer managing director of Malete Film Village, in association with the Kwara State University.
