The Nigerian Air Force says a purported’ Breaking News Flash’ with the headline ‘ Nigerian Air Force Kills Over 250 Boko Haram Fighters In Maiduguri’ is completely false.
Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, NAF’s director of public relations and media, made that known in a statement in Abuja on Sunday.
Daramola said the fake news that one’ Comr Aminu Shuaibu Musawa’ did not originate from NAF was issued on February 13.
“NAF wishes to state categorically that the fake sensational news story, with its gory doctored images, is completely false and did not come from the NAF.
“Media houses and indeed the general public are reminded, please, that the Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI) will always officially release credible information on NAF activities,” he said.
He also said accurate information about the Service’s operations would always be officially released by the DOPRI and carried on the NAF website as well as official handles of the NAF social media.
“Any claims that emanate from other outlets without NAF verification should be completely discounted,” he said.
Daramola said that the NAF had taken action to prosecute the originator(s) of the aforementioned false report for disseminating fake news.
