National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi announces his 2022 presidential bid

Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi has officially launched his Presidential bid ahead of the 2022 general elections.

Muturi held a meeting on Saturday, July 3, 2021 with over 200 clergy drawn from the Pentecostal churches in Embu County at his home in Kanyuombora where he declared that he wanted to lead a country that is ruled by discipline and order.

The newly crowned Mount Kenya spokesman insisted that for him to achieve his vision for the country, he must take a stab at the Presidency and called on the over clergy who had attended the meeting to back him and even pray for him to clinch the top seat.

“It is very difficult to go talking about wanting to go and run for a second place, I don’t believe in that. I’m very clear in my mind that with your supports, with your prayers we will be able to clinch that top seat,” Muturi stated.

The clergy led by Bishops Silas Muriuki, Njeru Kanampiu, and Daniel Nyaga pledged to support him as the Mount Kenya spokesman and in his 2022 presidential quest.

Other Embu Pentecostal church bishops and clergy who were present at the meeting include; Gerald Nthiga, Jackton Mwaniki, Rev Richard Namu, and Bishop Murithi.

This comes after Muturi was installed as Mount Kenya Spokesman by elders from Embu, Kikuyu, and Meru on May 22, 2021.

His coronation had added him advantage over the rest of the leaders from the Mt Kenya region who are seeking to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta once he retires in 2022.

Muturi now joins the 2022 presidential race to battle it out with Deputy President William Ruto, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Mukhisa Kituyi who have also declared publicly their bid to succeed President Uhuru.
