Members of the Mt Kenya Foundation have once again been bashed over their attempts to interfere in next year’s presidential elections after announcing that they will be keen on deciding the next President.

Led by Equity Bank founder Peter Munga, the team has met five presidential aspirants in the name of identifying the best man for the country and most specifically the Mt Kenya region and it’s businesses.

But they have been bashed by yet another leader from the region; Murang’a governor Mwangi Wa Iria, only two days after another attack from National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, also a candidate.

Wa Iria has sought to rubbish the narrative that the tycoons are invincible, stating that they have been losing in their attempts to install leaders and adding that he has personally defeated them twice.

He told The Star that the group has even tried to prevent his governorship, and tried to block him from the seat in 2013 and 2017, but he won, this being the reason why he has no respect for its members.

“They have seen my posters but they do not think I am a good enough candidate to invite to their interviews. They did the same when I vied for the governorship in 2013 and 2017 and I defeated them,” said the county boss who has began erecting his presidential campaign billboards across the country.

He says that contrary to their claims that they are holding the vettings on behalf of the Mt Kenya region, they are actually doing it for themselves as nobody from the region has sent them to act on their behalf.

“I do not respect that forum and I can openly support those saying that the presidency will be given by Kenyans. Kenya is not their private company. Those who are attending the interviews should be employed in their companies,” he is further quoted.

He is among the aspirants who were never invited to the MKF luncheons, even as he says that he wouldn’t attend anyway. The foundation has since ended the events and is set to soon give Kenyans a name.

It held meetings with five aspirants; ODM leader Raila Odinga and the OKA leadership, and is expected to hold another function in Limuru where it will make the major and anticipated announcement.
