‘Mosquito Coast’ Renewed for Season 2 at Apple

“The Mosquito Coast” has been renewed for Season 2 at Apple.

News of the renewal comes ahead of the Season 1 finale, which will drop on Apple this Friday. The series is based on the novel of the same name by Paul Theroux.

“’The Mosquito Coast’ has captured the imagination of viewers all over the world, not only because of its adrenaline-fueled action and adventure but also for the engaging family story and captivating performances at its heart,” said Matt Cherniss, Apple’s head of programming. “We can’t wait to find out what comes next for the Fox family, and for audiences to continue to experience the thrill ride.”

“The Mosquito Coast” stars Justin Theroux, the nephew of Paul Theroux, as well as Melissa George, Logan Polish, and Gabriel Bateman. The series follows the journey of radical idealist and brilliant inventor, Allie Fox (Justin Theroux), who uproots his family for Mexico when they suddenly find themselves on the run from the US government.

The seven-episode series was created for television by Neil Cross, who also serves as an executive producer. Executive producers also include author Paul Theroux, star Justin Theroux, Rupert Wyatt and Edward L. McDonnell. Alan Gasmer, Peter Jaysen and Bob Bookman also serve as executive producers for Veritas Entertainment Group. Developed by Cross and Tom Bissell, “The Mosquito Coast” is produced by Fremantle.

“The Mosquito Coast” was originally published in 1981. It was previously adapted into a film of the same name in 1986. That version starred Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, and River Phoenix. It received two Golden Globe nominations, including best actor in a drama film for Ford.
