Unfortunately, KS Sethumadhavan, the National award-winning filmmaker, has died at 90. It is reported that Sethumadhvan passed away on Friday, morning December 24, 2021. For some time, the noted filmmaker was not keeping well and was reportedly under treatment. However, he couldn’t be saved as he took his last breath at his residence in Chennai. The saddening piece of news has caused his well-wisher immense pain. Everyone who knew KS Sethumadhavan and had ever come across him is condoling his sudden demise. As per reports, KS Sethumadhavan had been suffering from health complications for some time. It is assumed that he had some age-related ailments which he was facing for a long period of time. After the news of his death circulated on the internet, netizens are offering condolences to the filmmaker’s family and close relatives. Tributes are also being paid to the KS Sethumadhavan while some people are also searching for his cause of death. However, it can not be confirmed what took his life but it is said that his age-related ailments were the main cause.

Who Was KS Sethumadhavan?

Born on May 15, 1931, Sethumadhavan had mainly contributed to Malayalam Cinema. Apart from being an Indian film director, the 90-year-old was also a screenwriter. Besides, he had directed several films in other languages as well including Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi. Born to Lakshmi and Subrahmanyam in British India, the director debuted with “Veeravijaya” as an independent director. It was a Sinhalese film, language spoken in Sri Lanka, and was released in 1960.

As he had predominantly worked in Malayalam films, his first Malayalam movie was Gnana Sundari, produced under the “Associates Pictures” banner. Since then the legendary director went on to direct as many as 60 films. Some of the popular films of KS Sethumadhavan include Odayil Ninnu, Sthanarthi Saramma, Daaham, Achanum Bappayum, Chattakkari, Kannada Movie Manini, Anubhavangal Palichakal, and Ara Nazhika Neram.

The late filmmaker was even honoured with Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National integration for his film titled Achanum Bappayum in 1973. Later, in 1991, his film Marupakkam went ahead to become the first-ever Tamil film to win National Film Award for Best Feature Film. The director won several awards in different categories and established himself in the industry. KS Sethumadhavan has left behind his wife Valsala and three children. His son Santosh Sethumadhavan also happens to be a filmmaker. May his soul rest in peace!
