Black Panther actress, Lupita Nyong’o has shared a moving tribute to her late co-star, Chadwick Boseman on the one year anniversary of his death.

Boseman died on August 28, 2020 at the age of 43. He passed in his Los Angeles home after a four-year-long battle with colon cancer. He kept his condition private, continuing to make movies. Boseman also extensively supported cancer charities until his death from the illness.

A statement from his team after his passing said, “A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much. From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more, all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy,”

Lupita took to her Instagram account and wrote, “I did not know that I could miss both his laughter and his silence in equal measure. I do. I do. One year after his passing, the memory of @chadwickboseman remains this alive in me.” The quote accompanied a candid photo of both movie stars laughing together.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige also revealed that Boseman’s role of T’Challa/Black Panther would not be recast in future Marvel movies. Instead, the franchise will continue to expand on the world of Wakanda and its collection of characters through the upcoming sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

His final performance as T’Challa is in the recently released Marvel’s animated series What If…?. “He cared about T’Challa so much — all the actors care about these characters but Chadwick Boseman understood the power of Black Panther and his role as an icon,” the show’s head writer A.C. Bradley said. “It was super important to him to make sure T’Challa is always presented as a role model and a hero.” He also added.
