Kanye West Fans Pirate Donda 2 Instead of Buying Stem Player

Kanye West wants people to buy his $200 Stem Player in order to listen to Donda 2, but some of his fans have other plans.

On Wednesday (Feb. 23), Ye uploaded four tracks from the album onto the Stem Player website, but only users with the device could access them. By Thursday morning, a Reddit user had already written a script that essentially emulates the Stem Player by tricking the website into thinking an actual device is connected and extracts the layers of each song.

Last night (Feb. 24), Kanye uploaded the remaining songs from the Donda 2 listening event earlier this week to the platform. By that point, additional emulators had been written and refined, so it was only a matter of time before the MP3s of each track made their way to file sharing sites.

As of today (Feb. 25), all it takes is a few searches in the right places to find the songs—without purchasing the $200 Stem Player.

According to Digital Music News, it’s likely that Kanye’s Stem Player uses a technology similar to that of Spleeter, which is a program that separates layers of digital song files into individual stems. This allows a user to isolate the vocals or drums of a track, for example, much like how the Stem Player operates.

It’s hard to believe that Kanye didn’t see this coming. Piracy, in one form or another, has been around the music industry for decades now. From the days of Napster and Limewire to the current state of leak culture and group-buys, the streaming revolution hasn’t put a complete end to piracy like some believe it has. Just ask Juice Wrld’s team.

It remains to be seen if Ye has any plan to combat what’s happening. However, it’s worth noting that the Donda 2 songs currently on the Stem Player aren’t entirely finished. Many tracks have scratch vocal recordings and some sections are void of vocals completely. With that in mind, can it even be said that Donda 2 has officially been released?

It would seem that at this point the album is going to evolve far beyond its current state.

The Game and former heavyweight boxing champ Mike Tyson recently had a trippy arm-wrestling match where the Compton, Calif. rapper appeared to come out on top.

On Wednesday (May 25), the Hotboxin With Mike Tyson podcast released behind-the-scenes video of an upcoming episode featuring The Game. In the clip, the rapper and boxer engage in a tense but brief arm-wrestling match. In the clip, the two men are sitting on a couch and Tyson has a lit joint in his mouth. Game starts to get the best of Tyson from the jump, before the boxer sees that he is losing and decided to put some extra oomph in his effort.

“Ayo, Mike, chill!” Game yells. “It’s a tie, muthafucka.”

Earlier, Game admitted he was high on shrooms and weed provided by Mike during the encounter. “Mike got me on shrooms, too, y’all. If I’m spaced out for the rest of the day, it’s this nigga fault.”

He added: “Mike got me high as shit, man.”

In an Instagram post, The Game bragged about his apparent triumph. “I beat @MikeTyson arm wrestling & before you get started in the comments… he told me this eye to eye after it was over.”

President Joe Biden will welcome superstar South Korean group BTS to the White House on Tuesday to “discuss Asian inclusion and representation” and to “address anti-Asian hate crimes and discrimination,” according to an announcement from the White House released Thursday.

Biden and the group “will also discuss the importance of diversity and inclusion and BTS’ platform as youth ambassadors who spread a message of hope and positivity across the world,” the statement continues.

The visit by BTS will take place on May 31, the final day of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

As noted by Politico, the president has been active during the month. He issued a presidential proclamation on April 29 about AANHPI Heritage Month, and he and Vice President Kamala Harris — who is half Filipino — hosted a White House reception earlier in the month that included U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai.

Two days later, the White House lauded the passage of legislation to establish a commission to study the possible creation of a National Museum of Asian Pacific American History and Culture.

In recent months the president has welcomed several performers, including Olivia Rodrigo and the Jonas Brothers, to the White House, most often as part of vaccination efforts.

“I am beyond honored and humbled to be here today to help spread the message about the importance of youth vaccination,” Rodrigo said in a press conference. “I’m in awe of the work President Biden and Dr. Fauci have done and was happy to help lend my support to this important initiative.”

Rodrigo continued, “It’s important to have conversations with friends and family members, encouraging all communities to get vaccinated and actually get to a vaccination site, which you can do more easily than ever before given how many sites we have and how easy it is to find them at vaccines.gov.”
