Variety has hired K.J. Yossman as an international correspondent, based out of London.
Yossman, a former lawyer, most recently worked as a freelance journalist, contributing to a range of publications including The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Elle, Marie Claire, Wired UK, Animation Magazine and more. At Variety, Yossman will cover the film, television and streaming businesses in the U.K. She joins a team of global correspondents based across Europe and Asia.
At Variety, Yossman will focus on the U.K.’s rich entertainment landscape, covering production, distribution, exhibition, broadcasting and streaming, as well as representation and diversity in the industry.
She will report to Variety’s London-based International Editor Manori Ravindran.
“I’m delighted to welcome K.J. to Variety,” said Ravindran. “K.J.’s keen eye for news and passion for covering the industry will make her a terrific addition to our exceptional international team.”
As a reporter, Yossman has written on the entertainment industry and pop culture at large, from representation at San Diego Comic-Con to the exploits of the British royal family.
After graduating from Oxford University, Yossman began her career as a commercial lawyer in London before taking up a role as in-house legal counsel at Viacom U.K., as part of the joint Comedy Central and Nickelodeon legal team.
Remaining at Viacom, she pivoted to journalism with a reporting role at MTV News U.K., followed by three years at the print edition of the Daily Mail in London.
“I am thrilled to be joining Variety, an iconic publication that has covered the business of entertainment for over a century, as an international correspondent in London,” said Yossman. “I look forward to working with Claudia, Manori and the rest of the team to cover the many exciting developments coming out of the U.K. and Europe, especially as the industry re-emerges and revitalizes in a tech-driven, post-pandemic world.”
