Kenny J daughter, Jesselle Joseph, shared the heartbreaking news to Guardian Media yesterday and stated that Joseph had been admitted to the hospital for the past few weeks and had been battling the novel virus. Despite being given the best possible treatment, the singer couldn’t be saved and he succumbed to death. The dreaded virus has taken over 3,000 lives in Tobago and Trinidad and now Kenny J has also been included in the list.
Joseph’s demise has caused immense pain and sorrow to his family, friends and fans. Social media has been flooded with various emotional and tributary posts. Even though Kenny J was kept in the intensive care unit, he could not survive and passed away. His daughter Jesselle stated that Kenny was fully vaccinated and had taken all the doses of the vaccination. Recently, Kenny appeared in a public service announcement video series which was headed by Randy Glasgow while National Lotteries Control Board (NLCB) produced the series.

Talking about the series, it featured some short video clips where popular personalities and celebrities took part in encouraging the general public to get vaccinated. Kenny J was seen singing “Doh hesitate, just vaccinate” while playing his guitar. Before falling ill, the calypsonian singer had performed in various Christmas events which included Parang with Rome concert along with the WACK FM Christmas special. The 69-year-old reminded the public about vaccinating and to take precautions.
Apart from being a singer, Kenny was a retired police officer too. He was honoured with National Police Services Calypso Monarch Title. He was given this award in 1987. Later, Kenny started performing professionally. In 1990, he finished second in the finals of National Calypso Monarch where he sang songs like “Leave She Alone” and “Addicted To Sweet Soca”. In 1993, he released a soca parang “The Paint Brush” that garnered a lot of attention.
