Hot social commerce: WhatsApp to gain new tab dedicated to shopping




Facebook announced this Tuesday (22) that WhatsApp is the company’s newest application to have a tab dedicated to the purchase of products. In its ad, the company also promised to offer new advertising solutions for retailers to highlight their products. It will also invest in enhancing the shopping experience through Instagram, which will gain new visual search capabilities and dynamic augmented reality ad display.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg also promised to add a new store system to the marketplace to allow sellers to offer products to more people. He also stated that, as soon as a retailer configures his profile, he will be able to offer his products to all users of Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, with all the benefits of the new features prepared by the company.

Investments in new technologies

The main beneficiary of the news prepared by the company is Instagram, which will gain a new visual search system based on artificial intelligence. The promise is that you will only have to click on an item you liked in a photograph to get details about it and that, in the future, it will be possible to start a search from a photograph taken by the user.

The company also invests in new augmented reality options for retailers, in an attempt to encourage and facilitate online shopping. New APIs built into Modiface and Perfect Corp should make the process of seeing how an item fits into a shopper’s body more practical, and Facebook promises to integrate augmented network technologies into catalogs to enrich the display of advertisements.

The company has not yet announced dates for the implementation of the new features, but it said that the new store system on Facebook’s marketplace should arrive in the United States first. In its statement, the company promised to continue investing in solutions that make the buying and selling process easier and more practical for both consumers and retailers.
