Details of why Gideon Moi dumped One Kenya Alliance for Raila after a meeting with President Uhuru

In the wake of political realignments, Kanu chairman Gideon Moi has switched sides, dumping One Kenya Alliance and has been tapped by Uhuru Kenyatta to craft a new super-alliance with Raila Odinga.

The Star reported that “Kanu bigwigs have agreed to rally behind Raila, a move likely to jolt the amorphous One Kenya Alliance. Pundits had speculated that the alliance had President Uhuru Kenyatta’s blessings”.

The KANU party leader made the hasty retreat after a closed-door meeting with Uhuru Kenyatta, a clear sign that the President has chosen his side in the 2022 raced  that could see the ODM party leader face off with Deputy President William Ruto in the 2022 polls.

A top-ranking KANU official confirmed the development stating that “When the President finally makes his choice known, we want to be within the circles and as a party; we have studied the dynamics and we can see where to bet for 2022,”.

“We shall be part and parcel of the President’s succession plan. But what is important is that we must first align our party the best way through collaborations with other like-minded parties like ODM,” added the official.

Despite the development, Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) and Moses Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya) exuded confidence that the group is still intact with reports indicating that they are mulling over their next move as they stand no chance in the absence of Raila or DP Ruto.

Gideon was conspicuously absent during a meeting convened by the three OKAprincipals last week on Tuesday in Nairobi.

The trio would later announce that they had met as NASA and not OKA and state that they have unanimously agreed to dissolve NASA.

“They [Kalonzo, Mudavadi and Wetang’ula] resolved to issue a comprehensive statement on the state of Nasa in due course,” the press statement said.
