The Speaker of National Assembly Justin Muturi on Saturday, May 29, 2021 held a meeting with professionals from the larger Meru County in his bid to stamp his authority in the Mt Kenya region.

Speaker Muturi held a consultative meeting with Meru technocrats under the umbrella of Meru Professional Association (MPA) at Tharaka University College.

The National Assembly Speaker said he was determined to involve the professional from the region to transform the economy of Meru County and improve the lives of the residents from Mount Kenya region.

This comes barely days after Muturi was installed as the Mt Kenya region spokesperson.

His coronation would see him succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta upon his retirement come 2022.

However, Murang’a Members of County Assembly (MCAs) led by Stephen Chege cautioned Muturi and some Agikuyu elders against conducting the coronation at Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga shrine.

“Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga is a very important shrine for the Agikuyu community. The place is used purposely for prayers but not for political activities. Let speaker Muturi be informed about the sacredness of the place he is being told to be coroneted,” Chege said.

The Ameru Council of elders, Njuri Ncheke, had on March 6, 2021 crowned the former Siakago Member of Parliament (now Mbeere North) as the Mount Kenya spokesman as Mount Kenya Region succession politics gain momentum.

The ceremony took place at the Njuri Ncheke shrine in Tigania, Meru County.
