Kenyans are most likely looking at another instance when the outgoing President has already made up his mind on who he wants to leave behind as his successor and who he is trying to have take over.

This is according to The Standard newspaper, which reports that looking at the recent happenings in the country, it is now clear that President Uhuru Kenyatta wants ODM leader Raila Odinga as his successor.

The paper, in a publication on Tuesday, reports that this is why Uhuru has been doing all he can to prepare the way for the former Premier, whom he has been waiting working with since their 2018 truce.

The paper has established that Uhuru intends to to the same to end the political rivalry between the Kenyatta and Odinga families, which began in the 60 and which has resulted in political unrests.

“Uhuru is keen to pay back Raila perhaps for the truce or also use that the opportunity to settle the two families long-standing political debts. The president and ODM leader have battled out in two contested elections where Raila insisted his victory was stolen,” says the paper.

Uhuru is seen as having settled on the Odinga debt first, despite also having another one owed to KANU leader Gideon Moi, whose father, Ex-President the late Daniel Moi, Endorsed him for President in 2002.

It adds that Uhuru’s attempts to rally the OKA team, which is made up of Moi, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper) and Moses Wetangula of Ford Kenya behind Raila’s bid is the other proof that he wants a Raila presidency next.

But the other biggest proof, according to the paper, is Uhuru allowing his truce with Raila to turn into a political union, which clearly indicates that his plan is to transfer power to the veteran politician next year.

“Though initially seen as a political ceasefire, the handshake has metamorphosed into a political union that could see power transfer between sons of two warring families. Ruto has often times said the handshake was meant to deny him chance to ascend to power,” it adds.

This means that Deputy President William Ruto, whom Uhuru had earlier promised his endorsement, has lost the promised backing and will have to battle an Uhuru endorsee at the ballot.
