Court Convicts Man to Impersonate the EFCC Operatives

Justice I. O. Musa of the FCT High Court in Abuja has sentenced Akeem Oluwafemi Akanni, who has been sentenced to one month’s imprisonment by the EFCC. Akeem reached his waterloo when he falsely introduced himself to Abdullahi Idris, the NNPC Kaduna workers, as an EFCC agent.

Sometime in 2019, in Abuja, the defendant fraudulently tried to get money from one Abdullahi Idris, a staff member of the NNPC Kaduna branch office, to pay N300,000 (Three Hundred Thousand Naira) under the pretext of being an EFCC officer and helping him to “KILL A CASE FILED AGAINST HIM.”

The crime is contrary to Section 95 of the Criminal Code, the 1990 Constitution of the Federation of Nigeria (Abuja) and is punishable under Section 322 of the same Act. The defendant pleaded guilty after the indictment had been read to him. The defendant’s lawyer, Joseph Nyong Esq, has, however, informed the court of a plea bargain entered into with the prosecution.

The judge consequently sentenced the defendant to one month in jail with a fine of N20 000 (Twenty thousand Naira) only.
