Chadwick Boseman showered with love at MTV Awards

At the MTV Movie & TV Awards on Sunday, Chadwick Boseman was showered with love with a standing ovation from the audience. Fans couldn’t have been happier when the late actor won the well deserved Golden Popcorn Award. He won the award for his appearance in Netflix’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

Blackish‘ actress, Yara Shahidi took the stage to present the Best performance in a movie award. Carey Mulligan, Daniel Kaluuya, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Zendaya were among the nominees. However, it was Boseman’s acclaimed performance as Levee Green in the critically acclaimed drama that won the award.

Everyone in the audience rose to their feet when Shahidi announced Boseman’s name. They gave him a standing ovation and celebrating him on his well-deserved win.

Shahidi accepted the award on behalf of Bozeman’s family. She said, “I’m so proud to accept this award on behalf of Chadwick Boseman. When I say we are privileged to celebrate his art today and every day, I know I speak for myself, his legion of fans, and the communities he so beautifully served.”

Boseman, who starred in Marvel Studios’ Oscar-winning film Black Panther, died on August 28, 2020. He died at the age of 43, after a long battle with colon cancer. According to a statement posted on social media, he died at home in Los Angeles with his wife and family by his side.

Boseman rose to fame after portraying real-life characters such as Jackie Robinson, the baseball great, in the 2013 film 42, and soul singer James Brown in the 2014 film Get on Up. However, he will be best remembered for his role as Black Panther in the blockbuster 2018 film.

Boseman plays the King of Wakanda, a fictitious African country with the world’s most advanced technology. The film was widely regarded as a cultural landmark for having a mostly black cast and a black director. It was directed by Ryan Coogler. It received critical acclaim and grossed more than $1.3 billion US dollars (£973 million) in theatres worldwide.
