“Burial For Parents of Nnamdi Kanu Won’t Hold If IPOB Attends”-Police

The Abia State Police Command has cautioned leaders of the Biafra Indigenous People to steer clear of their leader Nnamdi Kanu’s parents ‘ burial.

Police Commissioner, Mr Ene Okon, said police will not allow IPOB to take part in the burial.

He added that the police would disperse the funeral if members of the proscribed group were seen anywhere around the burial site.

IPOB had previously demanded that the Nigerian army and other security agencies face the real security challenges facing the country better, rather than preventing them from burying His Royal Majesty Eze Israel Okwu Kanu and his father.

The pro-Biafran said his leaders did not come to fight, but to pay their last respects to their leader’s kin.

But the CP said he’d reached out to Afaraukwu’s traditional prime minister, Kanu’s hometown, to make it clear that if IPOB members attended, the burial would not hold.

He said, “Whoever thinks along that axis, they fool themselves. During the funeral IPOB will dance and the police elephants will also dance.

“They (the Afaraukwu community) will tell IPOB not to go close to the area, let alone to take part in the burial.

“If the community does not adhere to the warning given by the police, the burial will not go on smoothly because we will disperse the spot. The Federal Government bans IPOB.’

Okon added that as the Police Commissioner, no one should expect him to sit and allow a proscribed party to function in the state.

“We will not accept any flag, IPOB insignia or members of the group disguising themselves as members of the Jewish or Zionist Church during the burial.” He insisted that the police would only provide protection for the burial on the condition that no IPOB leader would be seen around the venue.
