Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, Chairman of the Air Staff (CAS) endorsed Grace Tabawa Garba to the range of Air Warrant Officer (AWO) in his appointment as Master Warrant Officer. With this award, MWO Garba is becoming the top-ranking Nigerian non-commissioned officer (SNCO) in the Nigerian Army Non-Commissioning Officers ‘ Framework, the first Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Senior Non-Commissioned Officer.
For its exemplary leadership qualities, hard work and contribution to the Service, over the years, the SNCO, which has served the Nation for no less than 33 years, was found worthy to promote itself to AWO.
The advancement shows NAF leadership’s dedication to ensuring that women’s staff are properly empowered to understand their complete potential. It should be remembered that one woman officer of NAF was sent to the United States to train as the first woman combat pilot in NAF history.
Similarly, a second woman pilot is nearing completion of practice, becoming the first woman helicopter pilot in service, for the first moment in NAF history. We expect to encourage other airwomen within the service to seek excellence and to aspire to this unusual altitude in order to support MWO Garba in the AWO.
